Rental Policies, Restrictions & Procedures

PAYMENT & CANCELLATION: Rentals begin on the hour or half-hour and are in 30 minute increments. Reservations are confirmed once the invoice has been paid in full. Once a booking has been confirmed it is non-refundable but can be rescheduled up to 14 days prior to the event. For any reservation cancelled within 14 days of an event, 100% of the rental fee is forfeited by the renter. In the case of severe weather or facility-related cancelations, accommodations will be made.

ALCOHOL POLICY: Private events may provide or sell alcohol but must first obtain a temporary liquor license for the rental date from DC Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration and provide a copy to the Hub prior to gaining access. Hub staff will provide a floorplan, venue letter and certificate of occupancy to complete the process. There are two types of temporary license:

Class F: Permits the sale and service of beer and wine ($130/day)

Class G: Permits the sale and service of spirits, beer, and wine ($300/day)

SECURITY DEPOSIT: For events involving alcohol a $200 security deposit will be added to the rental, which will be fully refunded if all policies and procedures have been respected.

NOISE ORDINANCE: Due to DC residential noise ordinances, amplified music (DJ or live bands) must end at 10pm. When there is amplified music the exterior doors and windows must remain fully shut.

PARKING: There are three parking spots reserved for renters and lots of free, unzoned street parking for guests. Vehicles should never block the driveway (a public easement for our neighbors), and no vehicles are allowed on the grass.

PLAYGROUND ACCESS: Access to the playground is restricted unless previously agreed by Hub staff.

DECORATIONS: No confetti, glitter, pinatas, tape or tacks on painted surfaces, tacks on wooden areas or stickers of any kind on the floor or walls. All tape should be "painter's tape" (i.e., no scotch, masking, duct, electrical or other sorts). All decorations, balloons, etc. must be removed after the event, along with any tape or string used.

STORAGE: We cannot allow any storage of items on-site or set up prior to your rental start-time and cannot store any items either inside or outside the building after events. All items left unclaimed will be discarded after 24 hours.

General Facility Information

DIY VENUE: Hub staff and volunteers will do their utmost to assist, particularly for larger events, but the Hub is primarily a "do-it-yourself" community space (which is how we keep things affordable!). You set up, you clean up (i.e., a "leave no trace" policy).

AMENITIES: There are tables, tablecloths and chairs as well as free, public wi-fi available for use. Our PA systems, portable 8'x6'' stage (Sanctuary only), video projectors and screens are also available for an added fee [PA and Projector specs are available HERE].

ACCESSIBILITY: For events in the Sanctuary, Hawthorne Room or Parlor there is an exterior door on the same level that does not require stairs to access from the sidewalk. However, the narrowest door into the Sanctuary from there is only 27" wide, and the unisex bathroom door only 24.5" wide.

There are two stairwells that take you between the Sanctuary and the Social Hall with a landing in between. There is an exterior door at that landing but it requires navigating a single step down from the sidewalk and then another step up to cross the threshold. From there it is 7 carpeted stairs up to the Sanctuary and 14 carpeted stairs down to the Social Hall, both equipped with passenger-only Stair Glides (400lb max; mobility devices must be carried separately).

On the Social Hall level there is a two-stall, unisex bathroom with a privacy lock but it is unfortunately not ADA compliant. We sincerely apologize to anyone affected by the shortcomings in this old building.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The Hub is located one block east from Metro's D94 Gallery Place - Sibley Hospital bus line, and only a 5-10 minute ride from the Tenleytown Metro stop.
